Channel letters pre-mounted on a single aluminum raceway. One box to wire, one box to hang. Free mockup and quote within 24 hours.
Everything you need for a professional storefront sign.
Letters, LEDs, power supply and wiring arrive pre-mounted on the raceway. Hang the box, connect one power feed, done.
One wall penetration and an enclosed power supply meet most plaza and strip-mall sign criteria. We supply the drawings for the permit.
Choose face-lit acrylic letters, halo-lit reverse letters, or a combination, all on the same raceway.
The raceway is powder-coated to match your fascia color so the letters read as if mounted direct to the wall.

See the sign on a photo of your building before you commit. Finish and lighting covered for two years.
popular sign types for storefronts
Raceway signs for plazas, strip malls and standalone storefronts.
If your storefront sits in a plaza, strip mall or multi-tenant building, there is a good chance the landlord’s sign criteria call for a raceway sign. A raceway is a slim aluminum box that the channel letters mount to, with the LED power supplies and all of the wiring tucked inside. The result is a raceway channel letter sign that ships as one unit, hangs with a few anchors and needs a single electrical connection. At Volt Signs we build custom raceway signs for storefronts across the United States, wired and tested before they leave our shop, with a free mockup on a photo of your building before you commit.
A raceway mounted channel letter sign has three parts: the individual channel letters, the raceway they sit on, and the electrical components housed inside the raceway. The letters themselves are the same fabricated aluminum letters with acrylic faces you see on any storefront. The difference is where they mount. Instead of attaching each letter to the wall with its own wiring hole, channel letters on a raceway are fixed to the box in our shop, the LEDs are connected to the power supply inside it, and the finished raceway lighted sign is shipped ready to hang.
The raceway is typically 5 to 8 inches tall and 3 to 5 inches deep, sized to the letters it carries, and runs the full length of the sign. It is powder coated to match the fascia it mounts to, so from the sidewalk the letters read as if they were mounted directly to the building. Many of our customers first search for raceway signage because their lease requires it, then keep it on later locations because the install is so much simpler.
The most common question we get is raceway vs flush mount. Flush mount, also called direct mount, attaches each letter to the wall separately. Every letter needs its own hole for wiring and its own mounting points, and the power supply has to be housed somewhere behind the wall or in a remote box. On a flat, solid wall with access behind it, direct mount gives the cleanest look.
A raceway channel letter installation needs one penetration for the power feed and a handful of anchors along the box. The wall is barely touched, the power supply is accessible for service without opening the wall, and when a tenant moves out the sign comes down in one piece. That is why plaza landlords write raceways into their sign criteria. If you are not sure which your building requires, send us a photo and the lease sign criteria with your quote request and we will recommend the right mount in the mockup. Our [channel letter signs] page covers direct mount options in more detail.
Every raceway sign is built to order, so the lighting, letter style and finish are up to you. These are the formats we build most often.
Front-Lit Raceway Letters
Front lit channel letters on a raceway are the classic storefront look: aluminum returns, a translucent acrylic face and LEDs inside each letter so the face glows at night. Faces can be any color, printed with a gradient or your logo, or left white and lit in color. This is the most visible format from a distance and the one most plaza sign criteria assume.
Halo-Lit (Back-Lit) Raceway Letters
A halo lit raceway sign uses reverse channel letters with a solid metal face and an open or clear back. The LEDs throw light onto the raceway and wall behind the letters, creating a soft glow around each one. Because the raceway sits directly behind the letters, halo lighting on a raceway is very even and does not depend on the wall surface. Explore finishes on our [backlit signs] page.
Front and Back Lit Raceway Letters
For maximum presence, front and backlit channel letters light the face and cast a halo at the same time. This works especially well on dark fascias where the halo outlines each letter. See examples on our [front and backlit signs] page.
Non-Lit Raceway Letters
Not every location allows or needs lighting. Non illuminated raceway letters use the same fabricated aluminum or acrylic letters mounted on a raceway for the single-point install, with no electrical work at all. They are a good fit for interior mall frontages, covered walkways and towns with strict lighting ordinances.
Logo Cabinets on a Raceway
A raceway can carry more than letters. We regularly mount a logo box or shaped cabinet alongside the letters on the same raceway, so your icon and your name arrive as one sign with one connection. Pair it with a [metal logo sign] inside for a consistent brand from the street to the counter.
Start by uploading your logo and a photo of your storefront using the form at the top of this page. Tell us the letter height or sign band size if your lease specifies one. Within 24 hours you will receive a free mockup of the raceway channel letter sign on your own building, with an itemised quote. Revise the font, color, lighting or size as many times as you need. Once you approve the design we produce the sign in 10 to 15 business days, test every letter, crate it and ship it free to any address in the United States, covered by our two year warranty on finish and lighting.
Direct-mount letters attach to the wall individually, each with its own wiring hole. Raceway letters sit on one aluminum box that carries the wiring and power supply, so there is one penetration and one connection. Raceway is faster to install and usually required by plaza landlords; direct mount looks slightly cleaner on a flat wall.
Most raceway signs run $1,500 to $6,000 depending on letter height, number of letters and lighting. Your quote is itemised by letter, lighting and raceway so you can see what each option adds.
